Ready to join the battle against spinal cord injury? Registration is now open for all official start locations hosting the fourth consecutive Wings for Life World Run coming up on May 7, 2017!
No matter where you live, you can sign up for any location. That’s six continents to choose from! Or join the thousands using the Wings for Life World Run App worldwide. Everyone can take part, and, as always, 100 percent of your entry fee goes to spinal cord research.
The Wings for Life World Run was launched in 2014 to raise funds for the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation. It’s an international event for runners at every level – from beginners to dedicated runners and competitors in a regular, everyday wheelchair – and more than 280,000 people from 193 nationalities have participated so far.
The Wings for Life World run didn’t just pioneer the concept of a synchronized race where participants across the world run simultaneously. This is the event that introduced the Catcher Car format, aka the “moving finish line.” The last individual man and woman to get caught by the Catcher Car are declared Global Champions – and if that’s your goal, go for it! But remember, you set your own objectives, making it the perfect event for everyone, whether the Catcher Car rolls by early or late. Participation is what counts.
And what does your participation achieve? Well, altogether since 2014 a total of 13.8 million euros has been raised, with participants covering a staggering 2.8 million kilometers.
“The aim is to raise funds for the treatment of spinal cord injury, ultimately to make spinal cord injury curable,” says Colin Jackson, an Olympic medalist from the UK who broke world records in the 110-meter and 60-meter hurdles and is the Sports Director of the Wings for Life World Run. “It’s an incredible investment. The scientists working on this say to me that one day, one day, we shall find a cure.”
Until that day arrives, the Wings for Life World Run will continue. Every step taken is a step in the right direction – to find a cure for spinal cord Injury. Your first step can happen today: check out the locations and register!
On May 7, 2017, you can join thousands of runners in the Wings for Life World Run, a global race a world beyond any other. Step up, nominate friends, challenge family and run for those who can’t.
