Tom Howell is the voice behind the Catcher Car. It’s him you hear in your training sessions against the virtual Catcher Car on the Wings for Life World Run app.
Here’s a chance to get to know that voice you’ve fallen in love with – or learnt to fear.
So, Tom, tell us who you are.
Tom. The epic voice of Wings for Life World Run app and amateur herb gardener.”
Is this your first time doing voiceovers or are you an old hand?
I've been doing voiceovers for around five years now, so I am still perfecting my craft.
How would you describe your voice?
Hugh Grant meets Frank Sinatra.
What did you think when you heard you’d need to be voice of a car?
I thought it was one step closer to my starring role in Disney's Cars 3.
Ha! If you could be the voice of any car in the world, which car would you choose?
Ferrari Dino. No question.
What is your dream voiceover job? (Other than Wings for Life World Run, of course!)
Ooh, maybe take over from the guy who does every single Hollywood blockbuster... "This summer, Arnold Schwarzenegger ... etc." and "It was a time of war …" You know the one.
How long did it take to get the Catcher Car voice right?
One take. Boom!
What word do you have trouble saying?
What is your favourite word to say and why?
Schmetterling: ‘butterfly’ in German. Such a great word.
What advice do you have for someone wanting to use his or her voice for a living?
Have a big night before you record; the voice sounds amazing after over indulging.
Do you run?
I do run yes. I run to counter my cholesterol levels (drinking before recording helps with that, too) and my crushing pizza habit.
If you were driving a Catcher Car who would you like to catch?
Haile Gebrselassie, the Ethiopian long-distance track and road running athlete. I reckon if he ran with all his Olympic medals and World Championship titles, I might be in with a chance of catching him.
