«I’M SURE THAT ONE DAY, THERE WILL BE A CURE FOR PARAPLEGIA»

03/28/18

Manuela Schär, this year, you will participate at the Wings for Life World Run for the first time.

Over the last years, I followed this event on different media channels. Unfortunately, my racing calendar was always full and I wasn’t able to make it to the run until this year. I’m really looking forward to it.

Which are your most important goals for the season 2018?

There are the Abbott Marathon Major Series. The biggest and most important six marathons number among them. This year’s series final marathon will be the London Marathon in April where the best participants are honoured. Till then, there are three other marathons (Tokyo, Boston and London) that are counted in the rankings. That’s where my focus is.

What’s your take on the Wings for Life World Run?

The idea is awesome! Mobility and everything that this entails plays a very important role in my life. Being active is healthy and fun. In this sense, the Wings for Life World Run motivates people to do good, have fun and support a meaningful cause.

You are participating as an ambassador. What are your goals?

I hope to motivate as many people as possible to participate in the run. Of course, it’s also important to me that people talk about the subject paraplegia, that it will open new doors and promote research. I’m sure that, one day, there will be a cure for paraplegia. Maybe, I won’t benefit from it anymore – but many other people will.

What are you looking forward to the most when you think of the WFLWR?

I’m really looking forward that, for once, performance is not the issue, but fun. I expect many cheerful people who are there for the good cause. I’m sure it will be easy-going, informal and fun.
