There are around 1000 volunteers who are making sure that everything runs smoothly for Wings for Life World Run in Zadar on May 6. The most loyal ones will be there for the 3rd or even 4th time in a row, being fully aware of how important they are for this noble project and being proud for playing their part in an event with such a huge impact.
The first Sunday in May will put Zadar in the spotlight thanks to the major sports event in Croatia, and Wings for Life World Run would not be possible without dedicated volunteers who know how important this event is, and its impact makes the number of volunteers who want to help bigger and bigger every year.
On May 6, more than 1000 volunteers will make sure that everyone taking part in Wings for Life World Run has a wonderful experience. Among the volunteers there are some who fell in love with the event and save the date to come back every year. In most cases, it was love at first sight!”
Renata Nović is a student, originally from Požega, who wants to volunteer for Wings for Life World Run as long as she studies or lives in Zadar. Here’s what she says: “What makes me come back? At the first race, I was volunteering in the start zone. The moment when the race starts is a moment you have to be there and feel it. There are no words to describe the experience. There are shouts and screams and so much energy in a single moment, so many emotions. Anyone who was there had goosebumps at some point. The feeling is priceless!”
Franka Pašara is another volunteer and this year is her 4th year in Zadar. Franka also shared her experience: “My motivator for coming back is something that happened when I first volunteered for Wings for Life World Run. I was working with three more friends at a refreshment station. At a certain point the first runner came in, followed by two or three more, then a group of 20 people or so and then…something I can’t describe. There were so many people! It was so impressive, especially when I saw people in wheelchairs taking part in the race and when I came to realize how far they’ve made it! It’s a very special feeling to be part of such a great event!”
When you know you’ve done a good job, you have every right to feel proud and that’s exactly how the volunteers feel”
“I feel proud during the whole weekend,” says Morena Longin, a high-school student with many different interests who writes about her Wings for Life World Run experience on her blog (https://whoknowswithlovemo.blogspot.hr). “I’m not only proud of myself and the other volunteers, more and more of them every year, but also of all the runners, people from different parts of the world, who are running for those who can’t. I’m proud that there’s still integrity which makes people offer their help and volunteer for such an important cause. When the race starts, I’m so happy for being there and being a part of it.
If anyone is still not sure whether or not to join the Wings for Life World Run global movement, volunteers with years of experience have a clear message:
“Being part of Wings for Life World Run in any role truly is an amazing experience. It fills you with so much positive energy that you can’t wait for next year, just to be able to experience it all over again. Volunteering at the race is a wonderful way to meet new people and make new friends. By taking part in Wings for Life World Run you are also doing a good deed because 100% of entry fees and donations goes directly to spinal cord research,” says Josipa Frišćić, a student from Zadar.
Lara Puhalo will be there for the 3rd time in a row: “You not only get to be in a beautiful city but you’re also surrounded by beautiful people, volunteers, organizers and runners, all of them willing to dedicate their time to a very special cause. I would strongly recommend volunteering for Wings for Life World Run to anyone, because it is not just any ordinary experience. It helps me restore faith in humanity, especially in the light of what’s happening in the world these days. It makes you realize that we are stronger when we act together!”
