BRINGING IN THE NEW YEAR BY RUNNING AROUND THE GLOBE AS ONE

01/30/19

From kitesurfers to cartwheelers and skiers to surfers, they were all there in the Wings for Life World Run’s New Year’s Resolution challenge.

We asked our community to help us go around the world by contributing a short video aimed at taking a few steps towards finding a cure for spinal cord injury.

The premise was simple - run across the camera at a favourite training spot or iconic venue, and pose wearing anything from training gear to funny costumes.

The campaign reached 4.5 million social media users with submissions from more than 200 locations all over the world.

And from the myriad of videos sent in, those efforts merged into one eye-catching clip showing the variety and global nature of the event all set off by Wings for Life World Run international sports director Colin Jackson.

There was running in the snow, running past ancient sites and even dogs running.

Imaginative filmmakers used handstands, footballs, weights, trampolines, motorbikes and climbing walls for the stand-out clips.

And poignantly the merged video ended with David M’Zee, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a sporting accident seven years ago, walking from left to right to remind us what the Wings for Life World Run is all about, running for those who can’t while raising vital funds for spinal cord injury research.

By taking part in this year’s global event at 11am UTC on Sunday May 5, you give hope to people like David with 100% of the entry fees going to that foundation.

So, here’s to a great 2019 and thanks to all those filmmakers and runners out there for your contributions.
