Only a few days until 2019’s Wings for Life World Run on May 5, but there’s still time to sign up for one of the around 300 Organized App Runs taking place across the planet.
Enjoy the feelgood of raising funds and awareness for vital spinal cord research by taking part in the desert or by the ocean, in the smallest village or biggest city. Each track is uniquely different, but whichever Organized App Run you choose, you’ll be walking, rolling or running for those who can’t when the starter signal sounds at 11am UTC.
The first vertical trail run in Wings for Life World Run history, this challenge starts outside the old saltworks in Bad Reichenhall, Germany.
Salomon athlete Philipp Reiter will guide runners 670 vertical meters up a steep, technically demanding route to Bad Reichenhall’s Dötzenkopf. And if that’s not enough, the virtual Catcher Car will start the chase at 11.30am UTC.
Loaded with well-known faces, the App Run in Trins promises to be a day of celebrity spotting. Line up alongside winter Olympians and world champions to run for those who can’t on May 5.
On the scenic course along Gschnitzbach River in Trins, Austria, chase down ski-jumping Olympian Gregor Schlierenzauer or share the trail with Tour de France cyclist Georg Totschnig.
Bring supporters along for a great day out with refreshments and entertainment and to cheer you on.
Houston’s App Runners will start running at 6am local time, and the course will take you through Brazos River Park as the sun rises.
But what makes this extra-special is the chance to run with two-time national Wings for Life World Run winner, Calum Neff. Also on the course is inspirational trail-runner Rob Goyen. Rob is passionate about the benefits of running on physical and mental health, so sharing the morning with him will give you an extra boost.
The furthest south and running into the night, the Gisborne App Run has the latest start time of 11pm local time (11am UTC). Enjoy a genuine sense of togetherness as you run as one, all wearing headtorches to light your way along the shore of Poverty Bay. The lapping waves of the sea and the happiness of those around you will be your soundtrack in a unique night run in NZ.
For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, join the Albarella Island App Run. The island is a private retreat and exclusive vacation spot for the international jet set, but on May 5, it welcomes Wings for Life World Runners, too.
Run through car-free Delta of Po National Park to stay ahead of the virtual Catcher Car. You will share the trail with deer, heron and even flamingos, as well as fellow Wings for Life World Runners, international footballers Emiliano Bonazzoli or Francesco Acerbi. And at the end of your extraordinary experience, order a plate-full of fish and local delicacies at one of the island’s authentic Venetian restaurants.
These are just five of hundreds of Organized App Runs across the planet. The world map on the website has a pin in every run taking place at 11am UTC on May 5 – go find your perfect run.
