Interview with an App Run organiser

Barbara Slaček, paraplegic due to a road accident and a supporter of the Slovenian Paraplegic Association, organized an App Run in 2018, in Rače, Slovenia, and intends to do it again this year.

How long have you been attending Wings for Life World Run?

I have been attending the Run for four years. I first joined the Run to help collect the funds for the cure, and to have fun. I love having fun, and as I joined the Run I experienced more fun than I could have imagined, and at the same time competition for a good cause.

Why did you decide to organize an App Run?

Being a paraplegic myself, it is very important to me to have a possibility to join the Run. I used to compete in Ljubljana, one of the official Run locations, but as I do my trekking in Rače, it was really convenient to organize an App Run there, and enable more people to attend the Run. Being a person who loves organizing events, I found this a great solution and a challenge at the same time. We had 35 runners, and we expect even more this year.

What is your advice to those who are thinking about organizing an app Run? What was your biggest challenge?

Do not forget that this is an event that requires consent of the municipality. And do take care of the runners. They need water, snacks, safety, and some goodies. You need sponsors for that. If you want to attract even more runners, organize child day-care so that parents can participate as well.

What do you like most about the App Run?

The possibility to run anywhere.

Your motto?

Every day is a gift, and you need to experience it fully!
