THE PRESIDENT OF SLOVENIA BECAME THE HONORARY PATRON OF THE RUN

04/22/15

The President of Slovenia became the Honorary Patron of the Run

Wings For Life World Run Slovenia is under the honorary patronage of his excellency Mr. Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, who became the first country leader to publicly support the charity global run.

The local ambassadors of the run, Roman Kejžar (marathon runner), Matej Markovič (triathlon runner) Anja Klašnja (ballerina), Nino Batagelj (student) and Gal Jakič (Paralympic) responded to the invitation of Mr. Borut Pahor and attended the festive ceremony on Wednesday, 22 April 2015, at the Presidential Palace where the President declared that the Run is under the honorary patronage of his excellency Mr. Borut Pahor. The ceremony was also attended by a group of children from the Italian school Dante Aligieri in Izola, Slovenia, who visited Ljubljana due to the President’s guest, the President of Italy Mr. Sergio Mattarella.

Borut Pahor, the youngest President of Slovenia in history and the only politician who held all three presidential positions in the Slovenian political system: President of Slovenian National Assembly, Prime Minister of Slovenia and President of the Republic, is very popular among people due to his sociability and desire to get closer to his citizens. During the campaign the President voluntarily carried out various professions, and now uses every opportunity to listen and assist people in need. In free time the President is an active athlete who likes to run marathons, and it therefore does not come as a surprise that Pahor gladly accepted the invitation of the ambassadors to support the run also actively as one of the participants. Grateful athletes handed over a Race Number, and sincerely thanked the President and guaranteed that his generous act will open people's hearts and motivate them to join the race and run for those who cannot.

The support of the President represents a great motivation for the organizational committee, whereas credits for the success of the Foundation go to all of us. We hope that the President will serve as a role model and that many country leaders will follow his generous act, and that on May 3 there will be as many participants as possible gathered at the start area! Spinal cord injuries should become curable!
