The Wings for Life World Run is a truly unique and global race for both runners and wheelchair participants. Instead of a finish line, competitors race side by side to keep ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car. On 10 мая 2026 г. Wings for Life World Run participants in Portugal can also run together in Tavira. Meet up with your friends, download the Wings for Life World Run App and join all the other people running until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you of course. The race starts at exactly 12:00:00. The Virtual Catcher Car takes off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athletes have been caught. 100% of all donations and the entry fees go directly into spinal cord research projects.

This year, Formosa Running Club is excited to bring the Wings for Life World Run to one of the Algarve's most special places — the Salinas of Tavira.

From the moment you leave the start at the Mercado Municipal, the landscape opens into a quiet expanse: long salt pans catching the light, winding tracks stretching out ahead, and endless blue skies you can’t get enough of. It’s the kind of place where you feel connected to nature without even trying.

Running through the salinas means moving past still, mirror‑like pools, old salt‑harvesting beds, and the soft colors of the Ria Formosa wetlands shifting with the light. The area is also full of wildlife — flamingos, stilts, avocets, egrets, and other migrating birds that give this place its calm, almost timeless feeling. They’re part of what makes this route so memorable.

Out here, with so much space around you, it’s easy to settle into your stride and remind yourself why we run this event: for those who can’t, and for research that brings hope.
