What is the Wings for Life World Run?
The Wings for Life World Run is a truly unique and global race for both runners and wheelchair participants. Instead of a finish line, competitors race side by side to keep ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car. On 10 mei 2026 Wings for Life World Run participants in Austria can also run together in Wang. Meet up with your friends, download the Wings for Life World Run App and join all the other people running until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you of course. The race starts at exactly 13:00:00. The Virtual Catcher Car takes off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athletes have been caught. 100% of all donations and the entry fees go directly into spinal cord research projects.
Track
The start of the run is located at the Ruine Perwarth. From there, the route follows the Kleine Erlauf river along the Romantischer Erlauftalradweg (Romantic Erlauf Valley Cycle Path) in the direction of Wang.
After approximately 3 kilometers, runners reach the Wang train station. Here you will find a refreshment station where free drinks are provided for all participants.
From Wang, the route continues along the Erlauftal cycle path towards Steinakirchen am Forst. The course runs through the Unterer Markt in Steinakirchen and then continues along the cycle path towards the football field.
At kilometer 7, there is a turnaround point. From there, the route leads back along the same path to Perwarth and the starting area.
At the starting point near the Ruine Perwarth, there is another turnaround point, after which the route heads back towards Steinakirchen. This section can be repeated as many times as possible until you are caught by the Catcher Bike.
Because of this route setup, runners will pass the refreshment station at Wang train station multiple times, giving them several opportunities to hydrate during the race.
The entire route is paved and therefore also suitable for wheelchair participants. It is also possible to participate as a walker or as part of a walking group.
For anyone who would like to cheer on and motivate the runners, the Wang train station area is a great viewing spot since participants pass this point several times.
🚴 Catcher Bike
Normally, the Wings for Life Run uses a virtual Catcher Car through the official app. At our event, this will be complemented by a real Catcher Bike.
The Catcher Bike starts according to the official timing and speed of the virtual Catcher Car and follows the course. Once the Catcher Bike passes you, your race is over — just like with the official Catcher Car. 🚴♂️
